Welcome to J. D. Hubbard Consulting

I'm a legal consultant with over 20 years of experience in the field of probation. I shed light on the world of anime, manga, and gaming for professionals who supervise clients. My live training and webinars explain what clients are likely to encounter, the cultural context behind the media, where they are accessing it, and what is safe to watch or play versus what is inappropriate. Everything is explained in layman's terms, so you don't have to be a fan to understand the content.

What Do I Do?

I provide training and consultation to people working in legal and law enforcement fields. I explain in layman's terms what anime, manga, and video games clients in the system might be using and whether such content might be problematic for their particular case.

Why Do I Do It?

I have been a fan of anime, manga, and video games since my early childhood. Having worked in probation for many years, I have had the opportunity to see that many officers do not necessarily know the implications of what a particular client might be watching and how it might impact supervision. I am in a unique position to see both worlds and help bridge the gap

My Skills

Jim Tanner, Cyber Crime Analyst, 20th Judicial District Probation, Colorado

“Jack is a walking encyclopedia on this topic. His 30+ years experience with these modalities has greatly benefited my investigations.”

D. M. Probation Supervisor, Colorado

"Jack partnered with Jim Tanner to put on a four hour webinar training on all things Anime related for Law Enforcement, Probation/Parole and treatment providers around the country. I was so very impressed with the breadth and depth of Jack’s knowledge on this topic, Japanese culture, etc. This is a quickly growing area that impacts sex offender supervision and management, and with
this training, Jack provided a huge service to the field. We are so fortunate to have Jack (and of course Jim T) available to us in this district.
Thank you!!"

R. L. Probation Officer, Colorado

"The entire presentation was relevant to me. I learned things about Japanese culture I did not know about. But I feel I am more able to clearly define appropriate and inappropriate anime. I work with sex offenders directly so this is greatly relevant."

Amira Minazzi, LPC, Nova Counseling, Colorado

“Turn this into a series! I can tell this is just scratching the surface. I want to learn more - can you write a book?? Please present at ATSA! This is already an issue I am seeing more and more, especially with younger generations and this clarification is desperately needed. It's a whole subculture we need to be aware of - just like Queer culture, just like kink culture."
"Thank you SO much for making this training. I don't want to simply dismiss all manga/anime as 'bad' and I want to be respectful of different clients' interests. But I don't know a lot of this myself so it's incredibly helpful to have things explained very clearly like this. You were so helpful in giving your opinions on what is appropriate or not for clients too. I really value/respect your opinion as a fan yourself."
